Rad BS overcrook
Australian professional skateboarder Lewis Marnell died Friday from reported complications related to diabetes.
Marnell, who rode for Almost Skateboards and Nike SB, first found out he had Type 1 diabetes when he was 10 years old.
In an ESPN interview two years ago he discussed how being dependent on insulin affected his skateboarding.
“I just really have to monitor my blood sugar levels a lot and make sure I always got some sweet stuff with me in case the levels drop to low. Apart from that I can live pretty free.” Marnell said.
Nike SB posted the following on its Instagram account: “It is with great sadness that we are to report on the passing of our longtime professional rider and friend, Lewis Marnell. A skater whose incredible trademark pop could only be matched by the warmth of his smile, Lewis was an amazing person both on and off his board and will truly be missed. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends.”
Daewon Song of Almost Skateboards posted his sentiments on Marnell’s passing on Pheed, saying, “Lewis Marnell thank u for being such a positive inspiration to all of us and to the @almostskate family.”
